It was a summer evening, muggy and buggy in Buffalo, NY. Two local chemical engineering students set out for a round of golf, eager to finish their game before dusk. Beaten down by their unfortunate rounds and reluctantly proceeding, the golfers trudged through the Buffalo bogs, deep into the course and into the night which promised to swallow it.

The falling sun gave rise to an army of pests — clearly unhappy with their own rounds of golf that day — that ceaselessly swarmed the weary engineers. Frightened by the attack, the pairing unsheathed their synthetic DEET deterrers from their bags, desperate to repel the formidable flying fiends.

With a few careless sprays (from which only a few drops of repellent made contact with their skin), the terrified twosome was left smellier and slimier than before. Unable to grip their slippery clubs, still swarmed, and with knowledge of the artificial, abrasive chemicals they’d used, the golfers ashamedly headed back to the clubhouse.

The engineers were emboldened by this defeat and vowed thereafter to create a totally new type of bug repellent — one that was all-natural, fragrant, and silky smooth on the skin.

Thus, Bug Whip was born.
